Why was my KeeCash card deleted?

1️⃣ Deleting a KeeCash card yourself

If you want to deactivate and delete a card, you can do it directly from your KeeCash account.

Steps to follow:

1️⃣ Open the KeeCash app.
2️⃣ Select the card you want to delete.
3️⃣ For the card to be deleted, its balance must be zero (balance = 0), so if that is not the case, withdraw from your card to your wallet:

Withdraw from my card

4️⃣ Once the card balance is zero, the Delete button appears and you can tap it to delete your card.

Important: this action cannot be undone. Once deleted, the card cannot be recovered. You will have to create a new one if needed, at the normal price.

2️⃣ Automatic deletion after several failed payments

Your card is deleted after 15 failed payments.

Unlike other platforms, we do not charge any rejection fee.

💡 To avoid this:

✅ Check that your card holds enough money before a purchase or a subscription.
✅ Top up your card regularly by Mobile Money or cryptocurrency.
✅ Block your card temporarily if you have upcoming charges you cannot cover.

You get a notification in the app on every failed payment, and on the 15th the card is deleted automatically. Note that deleting a card cannot be undone.

Here is how to block your card temporarily:

Block / Unblock my card

3️⃣ Automatic deletion if the balance goes negative

A card can also be deleted automatically if its balance goes negative.

This can happen when some merchants (booking or subscription websites, for example) hold an amount at payment time and charge it later, sometimes after the card has been closed or blocked. If the balance is not enough at that moment, the card can go negative.

As a safety measure, a card with a negative balance is automatically deactivated and deleted. It cannot be used again, but you can create a new one directly from the app.

If your card was deleted automatically, you will have to create a new one at its normal price and start fresh.

4️⃣ Automatic deletion after 6 months of card inactivity

A card is considered inactive when no online payment has been made with it for 6 months in a row.

👉 Only online payments count.

The following actions do not count towards keeping the card alive:

  • topping up the card
  • transferring money to the card
  • withdrawing money from the card
  • keeping a balance on the card

Even if your card is topped up or used for transfers, it is considered inactive if no online payment is made for 6 months.

✅ How do I avoid my card being deleted?

➡️ Make at least one online payment with your card every 6 months.

If the card balance is positive when it is deleted, the funds are automatically transferred to your KeeCash wallet.
